PEM’s double output gearboxes are designed for long life in applications when a high AGMA service factor is needed. Typically the units are designed with a 2.0 intermittent load factor and a 3.5 stall torque. Any input and output configuration can be designed with any mounting and material of construction you may require. We have designed and produced units with as much as 500 hp and 200,000 lb-ft of torque.
Any gearbox has the option of using our trademarked gear tooth design we call Megagears. The Megagear allows for up to 33% more torque than a gear of the same diameter with a typical tooth design. We can even retrofit our Megagears into your existing box by another manufacturer. All of our gears are cut from 8620 steel, case hardened, and ground to finish.
As a standard, we make our shafts from 4140 steel for superior strength and our cases are designed with a vertical split rather than a horizontal split across the bearings. By doing this we eliminate torsional stress of the case which improves the life of the bearings and gears to a L10 rating. Every gearbox design is calculated with an intermittent torque rating of 2 ½ to 4 times (depending on what is required) the continuous torque and then put through a FEA (Finite Element Analysis) prior to construction. After final assembly every gearbox is given a 100% spin test before it’s shipped to ensure that you will receive a gearbox of the highest caliber.
